Our commitment: GetSafeNow cannot decrypt or otherwise access the content of your messages or calls. Additional technical information is stored on our servers, including authentication tokens, push tokens, and other material necessary to establish calls and transmit messages. GetSafeNow limits this technical information to the minimum required to operate the service. We do not sell, rent, or monetize your personal data or content in any way.
GetSafeNow is owned and operated by Get Safe Now LLC. This privacy policy describes what information we collect, how we collect it, how we use it, how we obtain your consent, how long we keep it, and with whom we share it.
By using the platform, you are accepting the practices described in this privacy policy. Your use of the platform is also subject to our Terms and Conditions. In this policy, "platform" refers to the GetSafeNow mobile application and website together; "we", "us", "our", and "GetSafeNow" refers to Get Safe Now LLC; and "you" and "user" refers to you, the GetSafeNow user.
This privacy policy may change from time to time. Your continued use of the platform after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of those changes, subject to the advance notice period for material changes described in Section 14.
1. General Information
The personal data of users collected and processed through the GetSafeNow mobile application and getsafenow.app will be under the responsibility of:
Get Safe Now LLC
[email protected]
2. How We Obtain Your Consent
When you use the platform, register as a user, use available functionalities, purchase a subscription, or contact us, you consent to our collection, storage and use of your information as described in this policy. Where we rely on a legal basis other than consent, that basis is identified in Section 2A.
2A. How We Process Your Data and Our Legal Basis
| Data Category | Legal Basis | Retention |
|---|---|---|
| Account registration (name, email) | Contract performance | Duration of account |
| Server connection logs (IP, timestamp) | Legitimate interests (security) | 24 hours |
| Push notification tokens | Contract performance | Duration of account |
| Call metadata (routing) | Contract performance | Session only |
| Support communications | Legitimate interests | Duration of account (see Section 5) |
| Payment data (Stripe) | Contract performance | 7 years (Stripe is sole controller) |
3. Types of Information Collected
Information You Provide
When you register or use the platform, you may provide: full name and email address.
User ID
When you register, you choose a username that becomes your user ID. This is how other users find and message you. Your user ID is visible to anyone you communicate with and to other servers when you communicate across servers (federation).
Usage Data (Website)
As you browse our website, certain data is automatically collected including: IP address, browser type and version, pages visited, date and time of access, and time spent on pages. On mobile devices accessing the website we also collect device type, operating system, and mobile browser type.
Server Logs
Our servers automatically log your IP address and time of connection for 24 hours, then delete it. We do not log message content.
Push Notification Tokens
To deliver notifications when you receive messages or calls, your device generates a push notification token that we share with Apple (for iPhone/iPad) or Google (for Android). The token tells Apple or Google which device to notify — it does not contain your username, email, or any account information.
Voice and Video Call Metadata
Voice and video calls are end-to-end encrypted — we cannot hear or see them. Call media is routed through our servers so that participants do not see each other's IP addresses. We process minimal metadata to route the call (start/end time, participants).
Payment Data
Payment data (credit/debit card information) is processed solely by our payment processor Stripe. GetSafeNow never has access to your payment information. View Stripe's privacy policy.
Contact Information
When you contact us, we may access your name and email address. This information is stored on our email service provider's servers, not on GetSafeNow servers.
3A. Community Forum Data
GetSafeNow operates a community support forum at community.getsafenow.app, which is available to all users, including free-tier users. The forum runs on GetSafeNow's own infrastructure and is a separate service from GetSafeNow's core end-to-end encrypted messaging platform. Data collected there is handled differently:
- What is collected: your forum username, the content of posts you make, and timestamps of your activity.
- Public and unencrypted: forum posts are public, not end-to-end encrypted, and may be visible to any visitor to the forum, including through search engines.
- Moderation: forum posts may be reviewed and, where they violate our community guidelines, removed by GetSafeNow moderators. Forum moderators do not have access to your GetSafeNow account information outside of the forum, such as your messages or other account details.
- Retention: forum posts and forum account activity are kept until you delete them yourself; we do not automatically delete forum content after a set period.
4. Encrypted Messages
Messages are encrypted on your device before being sent and only decrypted on the recipient's device. GetSafeNow cannot read your messages — not even we have access to message content. This is guaranteed by end-to-end encryption.
We have implemented appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect data against unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure or destruction, including secure communication protocols, secure storage of encryption keys, and regular security audits.
Voice and Video Calls
Voice and video calls use the same end-to-end encryption as messages. Only the participants in the call can hear or see the content.
Federation
GetSafeNow supports federation — the ability to communicate with users on other servers. When you message someone on a different server, your messages remain end-to-end encrypted, but the other server will see metadata about the communication (your user ID, the room, timestamps). To keep your communications entirely within GetSafeNow's infrastructure, only message users on GetSafeNow servers.
Encrypted Key Backup
We offer an encrypted key backup so you can recover your message history on a new device. The backup contains the encryption keys needed to decrypt your existing messages — not the messages themselves. It is encrypted on your device with a password you choose, and only the encrypted version is stored on our servers. We cannot read the backup or recover your password if you forget it.
5. How Long We Keep Your Data
Different categories of data are retained for different periods, based on what's needed to provide the service or as required by law.
- Server connection logs: 24 hours, then automatically deleted.
- Account information (username, email, display name): Retained for as long as your account is active. Deleted when you close your account, except where retention is required by law.
- Encrypted messages: Stored in encrypted form (unreadable by us) for delivery and synchronization across your devices. For free-tier users, messages are stored on GetSafeNow's central server. For paid customers with a private server, messages are stored on that server. Messages are deleted when you delete them, when you close your account, or per the room's retention policy if one is set.
- Encrypted media (images, files, voice messages): Stored in encrypted form for as long as the associated message exists. The encryption keys are held only by you and the recipient — we cannot read the content.
- Payment records: Handled by Stripe, our payment processor. We never have access to your payment information. Stripe retains payment records for 7 years to comply with US tax and financial recordkeeping requirements.
- Support communications: When you contact us, we keep records of the conversation to provide support and follow up. A support matter is treated as closed, for retention purposes, when you confirm the issue is resolved or when 30 days pass after our last substantive response without a reply from you — whichever comes first. Closed matters are retained for as long as your account remains active, and are deleted along with your other account data when you close your account.
- Community forum data: see Section 3A.
- Account deletion: When you close your account, your username and personal information are deleted from active systems. Encrypted message content remains accessible to other participants in your past conversations (since they have their own copies), but you no longer have access to it.
6. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect primarily to provide, maintain, protect and improve our platform. Specifically, we use your information to:
- Provide and process subscription plans and payments
- Provide end-to-end encrypted messaging functionality
- Understand and improve your experience
- Respond to comments or questions through our support team
- Send confirmations, invoices, technical notices, security alerts, and administrative messages
- Process requests related to your data rights
- Protect against fraudulent, unauthorized or illegal activities
7. How We Share Information
We respect your privacy and do not sell, trade, or share your information with anyone other than to provide the services as follows:
Third-Party Service Providers
We use the following third-party services to operate GetSafeNow. Each has access only to the information needed to perform its function:
- Stripe — Payment processing. (Stripe's privacy policy)
- Apple Push Notification service and Google Firebase Cloud Messaging — Delivery of push notifications to your device.
- Cloudflare R2 — Storage of encrypted media files (images, voice messages, attachments). Neither Cloudflare nor GetSafeNow can decrypt it. (Cloudflare's privacy policy)
- Third-party data center providers — Server hosting infrastructure. These providers cannot decrypt user data.
- No third-party analytics or tracking — We do not use Google Analytics, Microsoft Clarity, or any other third-party analytics, session-recording, advertising, or cross-site tracking tools on our website.
Business Transfers
If GetSafeNow is acquired or merges with another entity, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction. Where practicable, we will notify you in advance of the transfer. GetSafeNow does not offer a mechanism to opt out of the transfer while continuing to use the platform, since the transfer involves GetSafeNow's business assets generally rather than an individual data-sharing arrangement — but if you do not wish for your information to be included, you may close your account and request deletion of your data (Section 17) before the transfer takes effect.
Legal Requirements
We release personal information only when required by law or to protect the rights, property, or safety of GetSafeNow, our users, or others.
8. Data Breach Notifications
In the event of a security breach that compromises the confidentiality, integrity, or availability of personal data, GetSafeNow will assess the risk to affected individuals. Where required by applicable law, GetSafeNow will notify the relevant supervisory authority (for UK users, the Information Commissioner's Office) without undue delay and, where feasible, within 72 hours of becoming aware of the breach.
Where a breach is likely to result in a high risk to your rights and freedoms, we will also notify you directly through your provided contact information, without undue delay.
9. International Data Transfer
GetSafeNow is operated by Get Safe Now LLC, which is based in the United States. Our servers and the third-party service providers that support the platform (including Stripe, Cloudflare, and our hosting providers) are located in the United States. At present, all GetSafeNow servers are hosted in the United States — this includes both the shared server used by free-tier users and the private servers provided to paid customers. As a result, your personal data, including the personal data of users in the United Kingdom, is transferred to, stored, and processed in the United States, and may be processed in other jurisdictions outside your country of residence which may have different data protection laws than your home country.
Because the United States is not covered by a UK adequacy decision, where we transfer personal data from the United Kingdom to the United States we put in place an appropriate safeguard as required by UK data protection law. Depending on the recipient of the data, we rely on one of the following:
- the UK Extension to the EU-US Data Privacy Framework (the "UK-US Data Bridge"), where the recipient is certified under that framework; or
- the UK International Data Transfer Agreement (IDTA), or the UK Addendum to the EU Standard Contractual Clauses, where the recipient is not certified under the Data Privacy Framework.
These safeguards are intended to ensure that your personal data continues to receive a level of protection consistent with UK data protection law when it is transferred outside the United Kingdom. You may contact us at [email protected] to request further information about the transfer safeguards that apply to your personal data, including how to obtain a copy of the relevant safeguard.
10. Protection of Your Information
We grant access to your personal information only to personnel and contractors who need it to perform a specific function — for example, customer support staff investigating a ticket you have submitted, or engineering staff maintaining the infrastructure that stores your data. Some GetSafeNow personnel who need this kind of access are located outside the United States, including in Canada; the same access limitations described above apply regardless of location. Access is limited to what is necessary for that function, and is subject to internal access controls and logging. Our security measures include encryption of data in transit using TLS, access controls limiting internal access to personal data, and periodic review of our security practices and infrastructure. GetSafeNow does not currently hold third-party security certifications such as ISO 27001 or SOC 2. While we implement these measures, no method of transmission over the Internet is 100% secure.
11. Your Rights
As a user, you have the following rights over your personal data:
- Access and portability: Request access to the information stored on our servers
- Rectification, restriction, and deletion: Correct, restrict, or delete your information
- Right to be informed: Know what data we collect, how it's used, how long it's kept, and whether it's shared
- Object: Object to certain processing activities
- Withdraw consent: Withdraw previously given consent at any time
- Automated decision-making: GetSafeNow does not make any decisions about you based solely on automated processing that produce legal or similarly significant effects on you
- Complaint: Lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority. For users in the United Kingdom, this is the Information Commissioner's Office
All requests will be attended to within 10 working days. Contact us at [email protected].
12. Children's Privacy
We do not collect any information from children under the age of 13. If we become aware that a child under 13 has provided personal information, we will take immediate steps to delete it.
13. Third Parties
This policy addresses only GetSafeNow's use of information we collect. If you disclose information to other users, or to third-party platforms or services you choose to interact with independently of GetSafeNow, different rules may apply and GetSafeNow is not responsible for the privacy or security practices of those independently-chosen third parties. This is separate from GetSafeNow's own integrated service providers, which are addressed in Section 7.
Content shared with other users: Once a message, file, or other content you send is delivered and decrypted on the recipient's device, GetSafeNow has no ability to control, delete, or prevent that recipient from screenshotting, copying, forwarding, or otherwise retaining it. This is an inherent limitation of any end-to-end encrypted messaging service and applies regardless of any deletion or disappearing-message settings you apply on your own device. GetSafeNow disclaims liability for a recipient's further use or disclosure of content after lawful delivery to that recipient.
14. Changes to This Policy
We reserve the right to change this privacy policy at any time. For material changes — changes to how we collect, use, or share your personal data — we will provide at least 30 days' advance notice by posting the update and, where you have provided an email address, by email. Continued use of the platform after a material change takes effect constitutes acceptance of that change. Non-material changes (such as formatting or contact detail updates) may be made at any time without advance notice.
15. Device Permissions
- Microphone — Required to make and receive voice and video calls. Microphone access is only activated during active calls.
- Camera — Required for video calls. Camera access is only activated when you initiate or accept a video call.
- Photo Library — Required to send images and files from your device. Access is only requested when you choose to share media.
- Push Notifications — Required to receive incoming call alerts and message notifications when the app is in the background.
You may revoke these permissions at any time through your device settings. Revoking permissions will limit certain app functionality.
16. Minimum Age
GetSafeNow is not intended for users under 13 years of age. By using the platform, you confirm that you are at least 13 years old. If you are between 13 and 18, you confirm that you have parental consent to use this service.
17. Account Deletion
You may delete your account at any time. To delete your account, go to Settings → Delete Account within the app. Account deletion will permanently remove your profile, messages, and associated data from our servers. Note that messages already delivered to other users cannot be recalled. To request account deletion by email, contact [email protected].
The email channel above is a fallback for users who are unable to access the app directly — for example, a lost or inaccessible device. The in-app Settings → Delete Account path remains the primary and fastest method.
